Piezosurgery: A True Revolution for Nasal Bone Osteotomies in Rhinoplasty

چکیده
1 BackGROund In line with the modern trend toward minimally invasive surgery, the use of ultrasonic waves for cutting bone has recently been introduced in oral and maxillofacial surgery. This generally results in no visible injury to the adjacent soft tissues from the generated micromovements.1,2 In rhinoplasty, the lateral osteotomy technique should not only be precise, reproducible, and safe but also minimize postoperative sequelae, including ecchymosis and edema. The goal of this surgical step is to mobilize the nasal bones while simultaneously maintaining an esthetic contour. The use of ultrasound in rhinoplasty has the coincident aim of minimizing the surgical approach and overcoming many of the complications of this procedure.3,4 We present our own experience with a piezosurgery approach for nasal osteotomies, emphasizing the advantages of this method. We also suggest an innovative approach based on the navigation of the piezosurgery device.5

Effects of rhinoplasty on the internal nasal valve: a comparison between internal continuous and external perforating osteotomy.
The purpose of the study was to compare the effect of 2 widely used methods of lateral osteotomy on the internal nasal valve (INV) by measuring minimal cross-sectional area using acoustic rhinometry (AR) and computed tomography (CT) in the pre- and postoperative setting. Thirty adult patients noting nasal deformity requiring rhinoplasty were enrolled. Patients were divided into 3 groups of 10 p...
متن کاملThe use of nasal packing post rhinoplasty: does it increase periorbital ecchymosis? A prospective study
BACKGROUND Periorbital edema and ecchymosis following rhinoplasty is disturbing for both the patients and their surgeons. The study aim was to determine whether nasal packing after lateral osteotomies in rhinoplasty surgery increases the risk of periorbital ecchymosis post-operatively. METHODS This was a prospective self-controlled single-blinded study. Seventy four patients who underwent rhi...
متن کاملAn update on the lateral nasal osteotomy in rhinoplasty: an anatomic endoscopic comparison of the external versus the internal approach.
A precise and reproducible lateral osteotomy is a requirement for successful rhinoplasty. Two basic techniques have evolved: the external perforated method and the internal continuous method. The literature supporting the external perforated technique maintains that it contributes to a controlled, stable fracture and produces less nasal airway narrowing, hemorrhage, edema, and ecchymosis; howev...
متن کاملRethinking nasal osteotomies: an anatomic approach.
OBJECTIVES To review our experience with our anatomic (medial, transverse, and lateral) nasal osteotomy technique for correcting the asymmetric bony nasal vault in esthetic and functional rhinoplasty. METHODS All patients undergoing anatomic nasal osteotomy technique by the senior author (y.d.) from August 1997 to August 2005 with a minimum follow-up of 6 months were reviewed. Preoperative an...
متن کاملAdult-Onset Woakes' Syndrome: Report of a Rare Case
Introduction. Woakes' syndrome, commonly defined as severe recurrent nasal polyps with consecutive destruction of the nasal pyramid, is rare with only a few reports in the literature documenting surgical treatment of the external nose. Case Presentation. We describe the case of an adult patient with Samter's triad who had been surgically treated from nasal polyposis since 2002. By 2014 a conspi...
